Is it safe to travel to Jamaica by cruise ship?

I’m going on a Carnival cruise soon, which goes to Ocho Rios, Jamaica as one of the stops. I started hearing some story from a neighbor about how she went to Jamaica and had all her documents except her marriage license and they wouldn’t allow her to leave the country, and that they have a “corrupt government.” But this cruise wouldn’t have Jamaica as a stop if it wasn’t safe, right? What else should I be aware of? Thanks.
I forgot to mention that story about the neighbor, she traveled to Jamaica for a week by plane, not by cruise ship like we’re going to go.
