Is it safe to travel to Jamaica by cruise ship?

I’m going on a Carnival cruise soon, which goes to Ocho Rios, Jamaica as one of the stops. I started hearing some story from a neighbor about how she went to Jamaica and had all her documents except her marriage license and they wouldn’t allow her to leave the country, and that they have a “corrupt government.” But this cruise wouldn’t have Jamaica as a stop if it wasn’t safe, right? What else should I be aware of? Thanks.
I forgot to mention that story about the neighbor, she traveled to Jamaica for a week by plane, not by cruise ship like we’re going to go.

An answer go it alone there have been some cruise lines are indeed beginning to go it isnt pleasant stop in that the ship at all it alone there have been some cruise lines are constantly.

Which Jamaica is your friend speaking of Jamaica New York??? Certainly her documents would not have been taken away by the authorities unless she was a suspect. At any rate like any other country that you stop at on a cruise you can either go on a guided tour or on your own.
